Shaping the Solar Future with 210mm Ultra-high Power Vertex Modules
2021.04.26

Trina Solar is participating in the upcoming International Green Energy Expo & Conference in Daegu, South Korea to showcase the best PV products and solutions in the solar industry.

Trina Solar president for Asia Pacific, Todd Li, says: “As a world-leading PV and smart energy total solution provider that values the environment and invests in sustainability, we are very excited to be participating in the 2021 International Green Energy Expo & Conference in Daegu.”

“We will be showcasing our latest widely-loved products and technology. South Korea is our core market in the region. We are looking forward to the meeting at the Expo with experienced local partners and creating more opportunities to collaborate.”

There is a fresh sense of urgency and common purpose in South Korea toward combating climate change. The International Renewable Energy Agency’s (IRENA) Renewable Energy Statistics Report released in March shows that solar energy capacity in Korea grew 39% in 2020 year-on-year to 14,575MW from 10,505MW. Solar energy is South Korea’s fastest growing source of renewable energy.

Through constant innovation, Trina Solar continues to push the PV industry forward by creating greater grid parity of PV power and popularizing renewable energy. The new global industry standard, which Trina Solar has been helping to pioneer, is solar modules that incorporate larger solar cells that are 210mm in diameter.

Making solar modules with 210mm diameter cells the new industry standard includes specifications and recommendations for the size of silicon wafers and module design. The ultimate goal of the photovoltaic industry is to reduce the cost of electricity.

Through the standardization of 210mm size silicon wafer, the size of the silicon wafer and module etc., the entire industrial chain can achieve economies of scale, powerfully help upstream and downstream enterprises improve production efficiency, optimize supply, and drive industry technological innovation, while reducing the cost of industry chain manufacturing, the initial investment of photovoltaic systems and LCOE (levelized cost of energy) of power generation, to achieve grid parity. LCOE is calculated by dividing the total cost of the project by the total power generation.

Trina Solar’s Vertex modules, incorporating 210mm diameter solar cells, deliver significant advantages in high power, high efficiency and high reliability.

Vertex series modules integrate leading technologies, such as: multi-busbar technology; high density encapsulation technology, to minimize the space between each cell; and cells that are split using non-destructive cutting technology. Non-destructive cutting is done at very lower temperature, resulting in a smooth cut.

The specific Vertex modules that Trina Solar is promoting at the Expo include:

●  Vertex S 400W – designed for the residential rooftop market and small-to-medium size (SME) commercial and industrial companies. Vertex S modules are smaller and lighter, making rooftop installation much easier. They are lightweight – each weighs 21kg – and are 1.75m long and 1.09m wide.

●  Vertex 550W – the flagship module for all installation scenarios for commercial and industrial projects. Its lower voltage brings higher string power by 32% and can reduce BOS by US 1.29 cents per watt. It is compatible with fixed-tilt and tracker mounting structure.

●  Vertex 600W and 670W – high power modules designed for utility-scale projects. The latest 670W modules are the most advanced silicon product in the PV industry, and it is a milestone in the PV 6.0 era. The single string power gets 34% higher than that of other 500W+ modules in the industry. In addition, 670W Vertex modules can be packed vertically in shipping containers which means 12% more modules can be loaded in each container, effectively reducing shipping costs by 12% for each module, leading to 5 to 7% lower installation cost, creating more room for reduction of the LCOE and BOS cost.

“As one of the initiators of the 600W+ Photovoltaic Open Innovation Ecological Alliance, Trina Solar stands at the forefront of the new photovoltaic era. Trina Solar always takes customer value seriously, while driving the sustainable growth of the photovoltaic industry and leading the industry into a green future,” says Li.
