Singapore’s Switch to Renewables Comes as the Global Solar Industry Sees Acceleration in Technological Development
    2021.10.28

Trina Solar, the world leading PV and smart energy total solutions provider, is bringing more innovative ultra-power solar modules in Singapore as the country pushes to reduce its reliance on fossil fuels.

“Singapore has set a target of deploying at least two gigawatt-peak of solar energy by 2030, the equivalent to powering about 350,000 households,” says Trina Solar President for Asia-Pacific, Todd Li.

His remarks come as the country hosts Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW), an international conference and exhibition focused on the energy industry, including renewables.

Todd says Singapore continues to encourage the adoption of solar and that Singapore’s move is timely because the global solar industry has recently introduced new technologies that dramatically increase solar modules’ efficiency and power output. This provides more choices for Singapore on its path to achieve its solar energy goals.

“Last year Trina Solar unveiled its 600W Vertex module series and strongly advocated deep end-to-end supply chain integration and innovation. The company led dozens of other companies to jointly found the 600W+ PV Open Innovation Ecological Alliance, which has taken the lead in promoting the high-quality growth of the 600W+ PV industry.”

The 600W+ PV industry chain drives technological innovation and harnesses the strengths of each segment while coordinating the supply chain, he said. It also promotes standardization and wards off potential risks from excessive overlapping investment in same-class technology as the industry is upgraded.

Standardization of 210 modules, that incorporate 210mm diameter solar cells, significantly boosts the PV industrial chain and system value, says Todd. Maintaining the consistent ultra-high reliability of Trina Solar modules, the 210 Vertex series integrates design optimizations, including added frame wall thickness, larger cavities, optimized material selection and matching designs, to ensure ultra-high structural robustness.

The company has recently expanded its product offering in ASEAN by launching its range of 670W+ Vertex modules with higher efficiency of up to 21.6%. Vertex 670W modules have proven high mechanical reliability.

The modules have passed rigorous testing, namely static mechanical load tests, non-uniform snow-load tests, extreme low-temperature mechanical load tests, hail tests, extreme dynamic mechanical load (DML) tests and extreme wind tunnel tests. These tests verified the 670W Vertex modules' excellent mechanical load reliability.

The 670W Vertex modules, like others in the range, have a choice of mono-facial and bifacial. Bifacial modules coupled with trackers are very popular among those developing utility-scale projects. The Solar Energy Research Institute of Singapore (SERIS) has proven, among others, that trackers unlock a lower levelized cost of energy (LCOE) and enhance project’s financial returns. Trina Solar is unique because it is the only solar module manufacturer that also provides a truly integrative solution of smart trackers specifically engineered to accommodate large format modules.

“Product innovation is a core value of Trina Solar and has helped us develop our international brand, which is also known for proven reliability, best-in-class performance, and tier-one bankability,” says Todd.
