Trina Storage Successfully Passes Fire Test, Demonstrating High Safety Standards in Energy Storage Systems
    2024.11.13

In a pivotal effort to enhance the safety and reliability of its energy storage systems, Trina Storage has successfully completed a rigorous burn test using its Elementa 2 battery energy storage system, reaffirming its commitment to providing secure, high-quality solutions. The test simulated real-world fire conditions to assess the effectiveness of Trina's comprehensive safety measures.

The test referenced a range of international standards, including UL, BS, ISO, and NFPA. The exceptional results earned Trina Storage a fire test certification from SGS for its energy storage battery container.

Trina Storage designed a comprehensive series of evaluations for its fire suppression system, covering every stage, from early detection and fire warning to the activation of related equipment. This involved the automatic triggering of fire suppression devices based on logical assessments and simulating realistic fire scenarios to thoroughly evaluate the system's integrated response capabilities.

The results highlighted the reliability and rapid response of the fire suppression system. With dual protection provided by an aerosol fire suppression system and a water sprinkler system, the fire was successfully extinguished without reignition, validating Trina Storage's safety design principles and compliance with stringent industry standards.

Beyond the passive safety measures validated by the burn test, Trina Storage has implemented various strategies to enhance intrinsic and active safety. The R&D team conducted in-depth analyses of potential failure modes in large-capacity cells, establishing a link between the properties of lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4), electrolytes, and separators and their inherent safety against misuse. This research has led to the developing of highly secure active materials, separators, and electrolytes.

Trina Storage's battery storage products feature designs that incorporate materials that are waterproof, fire-resistant, and corrosion-resistant. The battery container has passed IP55 protection level testing, while individual battery modules exceed IP67 standards.

"Energy storage safety is built upon four tiers: cell, electrical, structural, and system design," explained Dr. Kai Yang, Director of Advanced Institute for Energy Storage at Trina Storage. "As long as one defense line is maintained, accidents can be prevented. Our quality assurance system safeguards intrinsic safety, and multiple safety validations significantly reduce potential risks. Combined with intelligent monitoring and early warning systems, we provide comprehensive proactive and reactive measures to ensure the safety of our battery system."
