TrinaTracker, a leading provider of smart solar tracker solutions and part of Trinasolar, has received carbon footprint certification for its manufacturing plant in Viana, Spain. Granted by Bureau Veritas, the certification emphasises TrinaTracker’s commitment to protecting the environment and contributing to a sustainable future.
The assessment was carried out in line with the GHG protocol, a universally recognised carbon accounting methodology. It evaluated TrinaTracker’s scope 1 and 2 emissions, confirming that all reporting is carried out accurately. A further assessment is also being conducted to verify scope 3 emissions, with another certification expected later this year.
As the need to tackle climate change becomes ever more urgent, Trinasolar is steadfast in its commitment to corporate social responsibility, and is taking significant action to meet its sustainability goals. The company aims to halve the GHG emissions intensity of its Category 1 and Category 2 solar photovoltaic products by next year compared with 2020. TrinaTracker, having achieved ISO certifications 9001, 14001 and 45001, is also focusing on obtaining ISO 14064, which will confirm that it is quantifying and reporting greenhouse gas emissions and removal in full compliance with international standards.
In the longer term, Trinasolar has a number of energy-saving projects planned, and aims to cut power consumption in global manufacturing and operations by 1 billion kWh between 2021 and 2030.
Alvaro Guerra, head of the Viana plant, said: “We’re very proud to have achieved the carbon footprint certification from Bureau Veritas. Our approach to meeting our green objectives and carrying out sustainable manufacturing is rooted in our company culture: we are constantly aiming to improve and innovate in these areas, and see this latest certification as a powerful endorsement of our work to date.
“With more than 20 GW of solar trackers delivered globally, TrinaTracker plays a significant role in the reduction of annual CO2 emissions, amounting to 2.198 million tonnes and powering 853 million homes. Alongside the wider Trinasolar group, we will continue doing our utmost to help pave the way to a more sustainable, environmentally friendly future.”
