All Trinasolar modules now fully certified to meet sustainability requirements of French market
Company can manufacture products with low carbon footprint, meeting strict 400kg CO2 / kW emissions standards set by French Energy Regulatory Commission

Trinasolar, a global leader in smart PV and energy storage solutions, has confirmed that all of its modules have now been fully certified to meet the stringent sustainability requirements of the French market. The company can manufacture products meeting the low carbon footprint requirements of 400kg CO2 / kW, which represents an important milestone in Trinasolar’s efforts to integrate environmental principles throughout its production processes, and reaffirms the company’s position as a leader in helping build a greener future for the PV industry in France and internationally.

In recognition of these efforts, Trinasolar has received 17 sustainability certifications for its products from Certisolis in France to date, with more to come in the near future. This means Trinasolar is able to fulfil strict requirements set by the French Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE), whereby only solar panels with lower lifecycle emissions qualify for government financial incentives. Achieving the certifications – alongside the 400kg CO2 / kW milestone – will ensure that Trinasolar continues to bring its innovative, greener products to customers not just in France, but also globally.

Emissions figures are calculated by adding the individual emissions measured at Trinasolar’s factories at each stage of the module manufacturing process, such as wafering, silicon preparation, and cell and module production. Based on these actual values, Trinasolar’s emissions are lower than the average values used to calculate emissions by the wider industry.

The above is thanks to key improvements made by the company in recent years, including increasing efficiency, reducing wafer thickness and lowering electricity consumption across the supply chain. Trinasolar’s approach to minimising emissions is rooted in vertical integration, enabling the company to oversee and optimise each step of the manufacturing process, and embrace the highest standards of transparency and accountability.

Gonzalo de la Viña, President Europe at Trinasolar, said: “We are extremely proud of the low-carbon capabilities of our products. Our work in this area began around eight years ago when we received our first carbon footprint certification, setting the bar with a low-carbon threshold of 550kg CO2 / kW. Since then, we have continued to break new ground in this area, fulfilling the 400kg CO2 / kW requirements as testament to our latest efforts. The recognition from Certisolis and our compliance with CRE standards complement our existing sustainability accreditations, such as those we have secured from EPD recently.

“Much of this success is owed to the hard work to implement standards aimed at zero-emission standards goals at our Yiwu, Yancheng and Qinghai low-carbon production facilities in China, as well as our overarching emphasis as a company on continuously reducing the environmental impact of our products. We’re looking forward to continuing to push boundaries in the French market and beyond in the future, helping accelerate the shift toward sustainable energy solutions.”
