The First Overseas Brand, Trina Energy Storage Battery System, Won the JET Safety and Reliability Certification in Japan
    2024.12.10

Recently, Trina Energy Storage's self-developed "new generation of low-temperature resistant household energy storage battery system" has successfully passed the JIS C 4441 standard battery thermal propagation test of the Japan Electrical Safety and Environmental Research Institute (JET) and has become the first battery R&D and manufacturer of overseas brands to receive this certification. It fully demonstrates the high reliability and safety of Trina's energy storage products and proves the strength of Trina's R&D certification team in deeply analyzing the local JIS standards in Japan.

As the industry's most stringent battery safety test, JIS C 4441 Thermal Propagation Test certification tests the resistance of system materials and structures to high-temperature conditions, as well as flame propagation control. By performing a forced thermal runaway test on the cells in the battery system it ensures that even if the battery cells burn, there is no open flame on the outside of the battery system box, and the box is not broken.

In the test, the single cell forced to thermally run out of control did not catch fire, and no fire was confirmed to be in other cells inside the battery system. After the occurrence of the overall thermal runaway and after a long period of observation, it was observed that the maximum temperature inside the energy storage system had rapidly dropped to a level of 10°C  higher than the room temperature after 8 hours of thermal runaway and remained close to the room temperature level. The test results fully demonstrate the excellent fire and heat resistance of Trina Energy Storage as an energy storage system while significantly reducing the risk of flame propagation to other batteries or buildings, providing a solid foundation for safety assurance.

It is worth mentioning that the JIS C 4441 certification test was carried out at Trina Energy's test laboratory in Jiangsu Province, China, and was witnessed by the JET certification body’s test officer. This is the first time that the witness test mode was adopted overseas, demonstrating Trina's deep insight and accurate grasp of JIS standards and its ability to develop products in strict accordance with high standards, thus winning the full recognition and trust of the market.

According to METI's calculations, by 2025, Japan's household storage market space will be 1.9GWh, and the cumulative installed capacity will reach 11GWh. In the face of broad market development prospects, Trina Energy Storage understands that the sprawl control performance of household storage systems installed in indoor scenarios is crucial.

Since officially entering the Japanese market in 2020, Trina Energy Storage has always put product safety first and has fully invested in the R&D and promotion of lithium-ion batteries and energy storage systems.

According to relevant surveys, in the 2023 Tokyo Metropolitan Government's household energy storage system brand ranking, Trina Energy Storage ranks among the best and has become a trusted brand for many families. This time, Trina's household energy storage battery system won the Japan JET safety and reliability certification, another breakthrough after Trina Energy Storage became the first Chinese enterprise in China to win the Japan JET certificate for its brand household energy storage battery system in 2020.

Looking ahead, Trina Energy Storage will continue to work closely with local partners, and the company plans to launch a more systematic residential storage solution in the Japanese market in the spring of 2025, aiming to provide Japanese consumers with safer and more reliable household energy storage systems, and further meet the demand for high-safety and high-reliability energy storage products in the Japanese market.
